When I was looking to license/franchise HomeChoice for the South Coast
towards the tail-end of 2005, Nick read the business plan, introduced
us to Finance South East and their SECA fund, and offered
introductions to some other sources of potential regional funding.

More interestingly he knew someone in Brighton who'd previously sold a
business to HomeChoice and could probably give us a steer on what they
were like to deal with.

Part of our plan for the HomeChoice franchise was to involve the
council as HomeChoice in London already had some local-council backed
initiatives for providing access to digital services; again he was
able to help with this.

I'd add that we didn't pay for the meetings or the advice.

I guess what it all boils down to is that we still have a pretty
fractured digital community down here; I'm assuming the bigger
concerns (Babel, Worth, etc) are still going, and I know that there's
a pretty good spread of games companies (Climax, Relentless, Kuju,
etc), along with the mid-sized agencies, the e-learning companies and
the ISPs, as well all the small, micro and freelancer companies. Wired
Sussex straddle this motley collection of businesses. Some services
(recruitment in particular) are obviously useful across the full
range, others less so.
